THE PROBLEM

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Pink Floyd’s  “Live at Pompei”, the largest italian TELCO, TIM, supported by Qualcomm, the leading mobile chipset maker, wanted to provide participants with an immersive experience both in situ and remotely. 

THE CHALLENGE

To provide a platform that could demonstrate the power of 5G mmWave during the concert. The experience had to be robust, smooth and high quality for the users while, at the same time, dealing with the extremely varied conditions of a night live concert and with the complexities of the new 5G mmWave technology.

THE SOLUTION

We helped GSnet, the vendor selected by TIM, develop an Augmented Reality Mobile App to be used on suitably enabled mobile 5G mmWave devices during the concert, an XR webApp and a TV XR experience to be streamed on the Itsart.TV channel.

THE RISKS

Targeting different 5G mmWave mobile devices not yet certified for AR applications in an experimental setting. The extremely variable environmental conditions, including darkness, ever changing concert lights and other factors would have an impact on the robustness of the solution.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

The experience was smooth for the +1000 participants to the event in the Pompei anphitheater. More than 91% user engagement during the concert. Thousands of participants via streaming on the Itsart.TV channel. Extremely positive feedback from spectators.
