ABB / Inglobe Technologies

THE PROBLEM

Equipment downtime is an important cost for the company. Frequent blockages are caused by relatively easy to solve issues that would not require the costly intervention of the maintenance team.

THE CHALLENGE

ABB was searching for a solution to improve their Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) strategy, based on the idea that everyone in a facility should participate in maintenance, not just the maintenance team. The main challenge was to find the right device and digitalization process that would fit into the ABB workforce.

THE SOLUTION

We got Inglobe to deliver Hyperindustry – Inglobe’s industry 4.0 solution that we have designed and managed for a few years – to ABB on premise to help their workforce implement TPM. The solution allowed the Process Improvement Team to quickly create Digital instructions that would be delivered on Mobiles to enable workers to execute low complexity interventions on the production lines. The App acts both as an instruction manual (and therefore a training tool) and as a troubleshooting tool, supporting operators to intervene and repair the fault.

THE RISKS

The integration with ABB global IT infrastructure and not digitally skilled workforce might have impacted on the efficacy of the project. This risk has been mitigated by setting up a dedicated internal facilitation and support process.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

Through our solution we have allowed ABB to improve on the Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE), autonomous improvement (involving operators in basic maintenance activities),  maintenance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
